Film and Photography Festivals in Toronto

May 04, 2016 |

In Toronto, during the month of May, we have the annual Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival and the Bloor Hot Docs Festival, celebrating and exhibiting Photography and Documentary Film.

the Hot Docs Festival has already been going on for about a week, but if you find yourself bored and lost, definitely check out the schedule. TIP: if you're a student, you can attend any screenings before 5:00PM for free. Here's a couple of films I'm trying to catch this week and weekend:

Under The Sun

I don't know about y'all, but I'm super curious about what in the fuck is going on in North Korea, this doc will definitely shed some light. Spare yourself from watching James Franco and Seth Rogen's, The Interview.

Sonita

Do you know anything about the struggles of being a female Afghan refugee who is being sold into a marriage, who is also an MC? Hip-Hop been crossing borders, people!

Hip-Hop Evolution

Your friendly neighbourhood rapper from Toronto, Shad, touches down in New York to investigate the origins and evolutions of hip-hop from an underground sub-culture to becoming modern day popular music. Shad talks with some of the originators like Kool Herc, Africa Bambaataa, and Grandmaster Flash.

Almost all the Toronto galleries and public spaces have been taken over for the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival for the month of May. Here's a couple show's I'll be checking out:
