PND & Drake come together & lament boss bitches who know they worth

March 22, 2016 |

Once again we are blessed with a syrupy anthem of late night longing by the braid shaking, after party wind-down king, partynextdoor. 40 comes through as usual, producing a clean, understated, emotive beat that welcomes Drakes sing-songy rap style with open arms. Actually, Drake’s verse on this is unique in the fact that it isn’t his typical pinched vocals; he brings a sort of soothing sorrow to the track that is reminiscent of the So Far Gone mixtape of ’09. What’s truly refreshing about this track is the level of vulnerability brought to the table by both Toronto artists. I don’t know about you guys, but authencity in rap these days is rare and I covet and admire the shit out of it.

Usually, these boys lay back and wait for the hotline bling. They aren’t out here chasing girls and pining over them but this pattern breaks here. Party bares his soul saying that he’s calling up his girl asking her to come through to meet him, but in an act of dignity she responds "do I own a watch, do I know what time it is right now It's after 2AM and that's asking a lot of you right now”. The song goes on, with the girl pointing out that she won’t be the one pulling all the weight now just because he’s a big shot, and the boys admitting that they don’t even know what her place looks like or how it’s decorated due to how one sided their pursuits have been.

Women are often portrayed in rap music as being necessitous or abundantly available. Come And See Me takes this stereotype and turns it on it’s head- showing listeners that no matter what your status (6god or not) a woman worthy of your time needs to be proven you’re worthy of hers too.

I’m predicting a video... because the imagery of summertime pool hops, VHS nostalgia and intimate moments slipping is just too strong for me let go….right now.

As if we needed another reason to worship the 6god,

Here’s the latest from the Toronto duo.
