North by North East is returning to Toronto for its 21st summer. The festival begins on June 17 and runs for 5 days until the 21st. Piggy backing off the Austin SXSW festival, NXNE brings together an array of local, national and international artists.

This year we will be hearing familiar sounds from hip-hop tag team Rae Sremmurd and rapper Ty Dolla $ign. But it is the up and coming artists such as female rapper Tink, NY born and bred youngsin Bishop Nehru and a local TO kidRaz Fresco, who have got our attention.

As always, a free concert at Yonge and Dundas Square will close the doors to the festival. Artists performing on Sunday, June 21 at YDS are NUE, Casey Veggies, Ty Dolla $ign and Shad.

If your more of an artsy type, the festival also offers exclusive film screenings. This year they will be celebrating the creativity and collaborative efforts behind the worlds most famous and interesting music videos at an event entitledi·co·nog·ra·phy: An Exploration of Culture through Music Videos in addition to a screening Amy, a documentary exploring the life of legendary artist Amy Whinehouse.
