Community 54 continues to mob out in publications.  Get right or go left!

New stores (November 10–16, 2011)

Community 54
Contrary to what you might think, this streetwear shop isn’t named for its address, but rather after Studio 54 and the creative, collaborative era that the nightclub stands for. Owner Daymon Green believes the Lower East Side is one of the last true communities left in Manhattan, which is why he chose to open his store in the neighborhood. From the street, Community 54 looks like a vintage video arcade—one that’s fully functioning and frequently drawing in passersby. However, more observant Pac-Man lovers will realize that if you walk through the photo booth, you’ll find yourself in a clothing store (and just beyond that, an outdoor event space decorated by international graffiti artists). The mostly men’s apparel and accessories range from vintage Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger jackets ($250–$450) to limited-edition collaborative hats ($25–$40) with the NHL, NCAA and Brooklyn company Good Wood NYC. Standouts from the part consignment shop, part design house include limited-edition Fools Gold x Members Only jackets ($775), a ’90s color-block Polo jacket ($250) and Community 54 x Starter x Good Wood NYC removable pin hats ($40). 54 Clinton St between Rivington and Stanton Sts (212-673-7060,community54.com). Mon–Wed 11am–8pm, Thu–Sun 11am–9pm.
